One credit translates about 1,000 characters. Danmaku average 8 characters, so a credit covers roughly 125 of them. Comments draw from the same balance and, because people read far fewer comments than they watch danmaku, they typically account for under 5% of it.
We do not quote credits in hours of video, because that number would be a lie. A quiet tutorial and a wall-to-wall meme compilation can differ tenfold in how much danmaku they carry. Charging by the character means you pay for what was actually translated, not for time you spent watching.
You are charged for the text we translate for you, and nothing else. The same video costs the same whether you are the first person to watch it or the thousandth. We keep a shared cache so translations appear quickly, but it is our cost to manage, not a discount that varies with luck. Repeated text within a single request is counted once.
Credit rates can change as our costs change, but a change only ever applies to a new billing period. Whatever you have bought for the current period keeps the rate it was bought at.
